This assignment was combined with our Studio 4 design project.

Firstly, we conducted precedent studies on construction systems that could be applied to our design. The studies covered:

• A roof system (excluding reinforced concrete flat roofs, green roofs, and common ‘A-shaped’ roof trusses).

• Two façade systems (excluding common glass curtain walls).

• The structural system, including the floor system (excluding common reinforced concrete post-and-beam systems).

For each system, we answered key questions about the type of construction system used, the materials involved, how the system was constructed, its advantages and disadvantages, and why we chose the system considering its benefits and drawbacks. Then we were to apply these construction techniques for the roof, facades, and structure to our studio project.

We were also required to produce a sectional perspective drawing covering both the ground and first floor and a detailed drawing to show the facade components.
