NEIGHBORHOOD LEARNING CENTRE
We were tasked with designing a Neighbourhood Learning Centre within the Neighbourhood Park Plan at USJ14 Park (Project P1A). Our design proposals, informed by site analysis and precedent studies, responded to the environment and community, focusing on environmental poetics and passive sustainable strategies to integrate seamlessly with the site and foster community engagement.
The Learning Centre featured setbacks of 6m from the road and 3m from other boundaries, with a height ranging from 2 to 3 storeys and 900 sqm of net indoor space. It included classrooms, workshops, community event areas, as well as supporting facilities such as storage, toilets, washrooms, and lockers. Outdoor learning spaces were also integrated, and the design provided wheelchair access and a drop-off area with five carparks, including two designated for disabled parking, all incorporated into the Neighbourhood Park Plan.
Corridor is the generator of my building design and concept to interweave the park users in USJ 14.
Interweave the generations
Plants, People, Celebrations
Walking through the walkways, interactions start to take place. Difference sizes of the corridors served for different intentions that lead to different activities. People walking around under the shades of greenery serve as self-harvest for the community kitchen. The journeys from different directions intersec at the heart of the building where people celebrate.
