The Tropical Sanctuary

Students are required to design a Tropical Sanctuary at Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam (TBNSA). The built-up space of maximum 100sqm and be able to accommodate 2 people, including student herself and a family member comfortably in a short spend of time (2-3days).

SWIRLAWAY

Celebrating the bonding between my mother and me, this get(swirl)away house is a tango of curving forms that suggest serenity and mimicry. Each swirling body contains living space as they fence outdoor spaces in the private pool-courtyard and semi-private lily pond. To enhance spatial flow and continuity, users are led left from the lobby through the lounge with the pool-courtyard, the mistress bedroom which looks onto the lily pond and lake beyond and the spa-bathroom. On the right of the lobby are the hobby room and horticultural terrace with a contemplation room on the first floor. The building reaches out to the landscape as mother and daughter reach out to each other in this string of activity spaces.

Throughout the duration of this project, I exerted my utmost effort to challenge the boundaries of design, aided by the support and guidance of AR.IAN. I am profoundly thankful for the encouragement to venture into uncharted territories. This project has been a transformative learning experience, particularly in terms of designing within the context of the site. The concept of "less is more" proved invaluable in shaping Swirlaway, as it allowed me to create a minimalist form using organic lines. Being mentored by AR.IAN was an invaluable opportunity that I will cherish.

During the teaching sessions, I absorbed a wealth of knowledge. Each lesson was treasured and diligently assimilated. I am grateful for the abundance of guidance and wisdom shared, which undoubtedly contributed to my growth as a designer. This project not only expanded my technical skills but also deepened my understanding of the creative process. The support and teachings of AR.IAN have left an indelible mark on my design journey.
