DESIGN ESQUISSE - LEARNING POD

Project 1B involved an esquisse focusing on materiality and environmental poetics in context. In our tutorial groups, we formed smaller teams (3-4 students) to design Learning Pods aimed at enhancing the learning environment in the redesigned USJ14 community park. Within a 3m x 6m x 3m space, we created structures for educational purposes. Each team (10-12 students) developed three themed pods: Learning through Plants, Learning through People, and Learning through Play. The pods were constructed using one of three structural systems: Frame, Solid, or Shell. Our team chose the "Learning through Play" theme, designing a structure that integrates musical elements. We incorporated hollow core steel columns that produce different pitches when struck, allowing users to engage in a musical performance within the pod.
